Picture a Day: 1st-12th of January

One of my goals for this year is to take a picture a day! While they will most likely in large part all be pictures of the boys I am learning to just take a picture of anything that strikes my fancy for the day.  Its an easy way to document things and will hopefully help me blog a little more.

January 1

We spent the New Years snuggling in our PJs.  During after Christmas sales, Nana found the boys a Thomas robe and a Jake robe and they have been living in them.  Maryland, heat pumps, and sub-freezing temperatures are not a great mix so right now our life is all about the layers!

January 2

We headed back to school and work for one day before the weekend.  For Christmas the boys recieved a Hess Truck from their grandparents.  Hess trucks have always been popular in the North East and both my dad and my brother used to get them as Christmas presents so it is a little tradition my mom is carrying on with the boys. Rowen particularly loves the truck as it comes with an awesome rocket, a favorite of any little boy!

We had a wild and crazy Friday night with a dollar sundae from McDonalds.  It may be freezing outside but anytime is a perfect time for ice cream!

January 3

Saturday was nasty and rainy, the perfect kind of weather for a movie.  We ended up seeing the Penguins of Madagascar movie, which was cute, but the jokes were definitely over our little ones' heads.  This was Finny's first movie experience and his favorite part was definitely the pop corn!

January 4

Lately the boys have taken an interest in cooking and what we are doing in the kitchen.  They definitely want to be up in the mix helping, but also are willing to sit at the counter and watch the process.  We made Skinnytaste's whole wheat pancakes as waffles for Sunday breakfast and I let the help me mix the batter.

In the afternoon after nap the boys helped me make their first batch of cookies.  I received new cookie sheets as one of my Christmas gifts and I was eager to put them to use.  The boys loved scooping the dough onto the sheets and were eager to try the fruits of their efforts when they came out of the oven.  Rowen finished his first cookie, begged for a second, which we gave into, and he proceeded to shove the whole thing in his mouth so he could ask for another.  This boy definitely loves his desserts!

January 5

Monday Monday! A little action shot of the boys after dinner.  Our boys have a strong love of flashlights.  We are forever changing the batteries and hiding some of the more annoying flashlights from them. It is rare that one of them isn't carrying a flashlight around!

When we switched daycares I started having to make lunches.  My favorite boxes to use are the Easy Lunch Boxes which are perfect for preschool lunches.  Each week I am trying to introduce at least one new food to the mix, some are hits and some are misses but keeping the lunches fun makes the process seem less like a choir for me!

a little light reading, my favorite magazine!

January 6

This week brought our first winter snow storm.  While the meteorologists called for a dusting, we ended up getting almost two inches of snow! I was in the car  on the way to work for almost two hours when daycare called to say Finnegan had a fever.  Since we didn't know how bad the roads would be later I headed over to daycare and picked both boys up.

On the way home they begged and pleaded to go out in the snow and happily ran around for almost an hour! Rowen loved the snow and spontaneously decided to make snow angels.  Guess it is time I invest in some snow pants for this boy!

January 7

The little fever little brother had turned out to be the flu with an ear infection on the side.  Wednesday was spent snuggling on the couch and attempting to get this little boy to sleep a bit through his fevers.  Thankfully throughout the whole ordeal he never seemed to loose his appetite for snacks!

January 8

There is no bigger deterrent  for getting out of a warm bed than seeing the windchill is -3! This was definitely a cold and brisk walk into work!

January 9

We noticed Finny had been developing a cough so on Friday we headed back to the pediatricians to get him checked out.  Turns out the medication wasn't quite working and the flu had led to a bronchitis/pneumonia combo with full on ear infections in both ears.  Thankfully our doctor was very proactive in treating our boy, and a new combination of meds/treatments found him steadily getting better over the weekend!

January 10

Since Finny was still on the mend, the weekend around here was pretty lazy.  Lots of snuggles and staying warm!

The boys' fascination with pirates is never ending.  Finny found Row's captain hook getup and was running around fighting imaginary puny pirates!

We attempted to cut cable this weekend, and this was the picture on our high tech rabbit ears the Mohu.  While the picture was great, we had difficultly picking up a few channels consistently so we decided to get some type of cable after all.  While the process was at times annoying, I am still pleased that we will be cutting our cable bill by $120 a month!

January 11

Rowen is our early riser. It is likely because we woke him near 5am consistently for the first 3 years of his life and now being up early is ingrained in his nature.  This week and weekend he did well not waking Finny up and just brought himself over to our bed for snuggles.  He still curls up next to us just as he did when we used to take family afternoon naps after work/daycare when we were a family of three and I can't believe that same baby will be four in a few short months!

January 12

Lola. Doda. Lady Killer.  My shadow.  Sister is literally my velcro dog and is rarely more than a few feet from me when we are home.  She has  developed a fondness for my favorite stove top pop corn and strolls into the kitchen every time she hears me take the pan out.  She sits and waits patiently for me to throw her a few pieces and then sets herself up like this to catch any extra pieces I am willing to throw her way.  How can you resist that face?!?

Hopefully now that I am caught up these posts won't be so long!
